Surprisingly, many Buddhists and people interested in Buddhism find meditation groups or Buddhist groups that meet at UU churches.  Typically Buddhist related events are organized as a club or group within the UU church.  Here is the complete NoVA UU list.

Suggestion

There is a divide between the ethnic and immigrant Buddhists and the non-ethinic, non-immigrant Buddhists.  If you are searching for a group, make a special effort to try out groups that don't match your ethnic background.
