- Use Gmail. Spam is now gone.
- Next, consolidate remaining email. Go to Meetup/Google Groups/Yahoo Groups, set everything to digest. Do same for all other email lists.
- Unsubscribe to all commercial and charitable email lists. On average I get 10 to 100 emails per year per organization that I’ve give money to.
- Unsubscribe to all but the most essential alerts.
- Use RSS instead of email subscriptions where available.
- If an email has an unsubscribe link, seriously consider using it.
- If an unsubscribe link fails, mark it as spam.
- Don’t give out email addresses unless you can imagine an email you’d want to received from that organization.
- Consider using disposable email addresses.
