Fell in love with a girl

Fell in love with a girl,
fell in love once and almost completely,
she’s in love with the world,
but sometimes these feelings,
can be so misleading,
she turns and says “Are you alright?”
I said “I must be fine cause my heart’s still beating,”
she says “come and kiss me by the riverside, Pompeii says it’s fine he don’t consider it cheating,”

Black hair without a curl
mellow roll for the flavor
and the eyes for peeping
can’t keep away from the girl
these two sides of my brain
need to have a meeting
can’t think of anything to do
my left brain knows that
all love is fleeting
she’s just looking for vegan fondue
and I said it once before
but it bears repeating

The heart is hard to translate

And the heart is hard to translate,
It has a language of it’s own,
It talks and tongues and quiet sighs and prayers and proclamations,
In the grand days of great men and the smallest of gestures,
In short shallow gasps.

But with all my education,
I can’t seem to command it, *
And the words are all escaping me,
And coming back all damaged,
And I would put them back in poetry,
If I only knew how,
I can’t seem to understand it,

And I would give all this and heaven too,
I would give it all if only for a moment,
That I could just understand the meaning of the word you see,
‘Cause I’ve been scrawling it forever,
But it never makes sense to me at all.

And it talks to me in tiptoes,
And sings to me inside,
It cries out in the darkest night,
And breaks in morning light.

No, words are a language,
It doesn’t deserve such treatment,
And all my stumbling phrases,
Never amounted to anything worth this feeling,
All this heaven,
Never could describe such a feeling as I’m having,
Words were never so useful,
So I was screaming out a language that I never knew existed before.

Good morning!

Well I see trees of green and
Red roses too,
I’ll watch them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

Well I see skies of blue and I see clouds of white
And the brightness of day
I like the dark and I think to myself
What a wonderful world

The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people passing by
I see friends shaking hands
Saying, “How do you do?”
They’re really saying, I…I love you
I hear babies cry and I watch them grow,
They’ll learn much more
Than we’ll know
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

Noteworthy Love Song

Love is Here is a nice song that showed up in My FluxBox feed (that is a blog that tracks free and legal Mp3s that artists have posted for promotional purposes)

Pro:  It is generic.  It isn’t so specific about someone’s life you can’t project yourself into it.
It’s happy.  Not one of those songs that is depressing once you read the lyrics.
The melody is good

Con: It’s cheesy.  This is pop.
This is definately a song for girls to sing.  This isn’t a song that would work for a guy singing unless it was reworked beyond recognition.
It requires major mental gymnastics to justify liking the song.

Code Monkey

(Modified lyrics, Mp3 here )

Code Monkey get up get coffee
Code Monkey go to job
have boring meeting with boring manager Rob
what do Code Monkey think?
Code Monkey think maybe manager want to write login page himself
Code Monkey not say it out loud
Code Monkey not crazy just proud

Code Monkey hang around at front desk
tell you sweater look nice
Code Monkey offer buy you soda
bring you cup bring you ice
you say no thank you for the soda cause
soda make you fat
anyway you busy with the telephone
no time for chat

Code Monkey like Cheetos
Code Monkey like Tab and Mountain Dew
Code Monkey very simple man
with big warm fuzzy secret heart
Code Monkey like you
Code Monkey like you

Code Monkey have long walk back to cubicle
he sit down pretend to work
Code Monkey not thinking so straight

Code Monkey like Cheetos
Code Monkey like Tab and Mountain Dew
Code Monkey very simple man
with big warm fuzzy secret heart
Code Monkey like you
Code Monkey like you a lot

Code Monkey just keep on working
to see your soft pretty face
Much rather wake up eat a coffee cake
Take bath, take nap
This job fulfilling in creative way
Code Monkey think someday he have everything even pretty girl like you
Code Monkey just waiting for now
Code Monkey say someday, somehow

Code Monkey very simple man
with big warm fuzzy secret heart
Code Monkey like you
Code Monkey like you

Sentiment for the day

“You peer inside yourself
You take the things you like
And try to love the things you took
And then you take that love you made
And stick it into some
Someone else’s heart
Pumping someone else’s blood
And walking arm in arm
You hope it don’t get harmed
But even if it does
You’ll just do it all again”

Romance: It’s February again

It’s February again, when the mind turns to romance again. I was at Fado in DC– they got the ambiance right for evoking Ireland.  I sat and Scythian tunes started playing in my head.  Scythian is a local Irish band, I play them on my iPod on the way to work.

Can’t find the lyrics, but I did find a quote from this appropriate page: “‘Tell in what harbour my girl is confined?’ and say ‘Though she lives on Thessaly’s shore, or beyond the Scythian, she’ll be mine.’”

Which illustrates an idea I’ve been working on–love is about existence value.  We want to be with someone, we want someone because they exist.  Romance doesn’t need a clever rationalization.

Solved another humdinger of a ill defined question today.  I was thinking about why dating is such an uphill struggle.  I think the answer is “high stakes relationships“.  If a new relationship means creating that much risk, then yeah, then just coffee isn’t just coffee, it’s an existential challenge. “Good morning.  How’d you like to go out for a cup of coffee and see if we can put together the ultimate meaning of life?”
And today I got an opportunity to use (at least in my own inner dialog), the word postmodernism.  I was watching nobody’s watching– they are pretty funny.  Even more ironic is that I don’t own a TV, so I’m not watching TV, but watching TV on youtube, but about a TV show about being frustrated with watching TV.
